Did your SEO ranking tank? Try this:
Determine if the theme (or type) of your search result just changed.
Let us explain:
Over time, there have been a lot of different queries that used to have one type of answer as a response. For example, comparison pages.
Then, all of a sudden, Google realized that people weren’t looking for comparisons – they were looking for direct purchases from single providers.
As a result, the pages in Google’s Top 10 shifted.
They moved away from comparisons and moved toward single providers.
The top ranked pages move toward the type of responses users are actually looking for.
Let’s say you’re a comparison website and you wake up one day to notice you don’t have good rankings anymore. Immediately, go look at the search results. If you notice that the top ranked pages are direct providers not comparison websites – that right there is the key difference.
So, what do you do in those sorts of situations?
It’s a little tougher because you’re not currently the exact type of page that Google’s already rewarding. However, you can adjust your approach by creating a hybrid version of the page you have now and the type of page Google is rewarding.
So bringing home our example of the comparison website: If you’ve been doing comparisons, we’d recommend having fewer comparisons moving forward or to simply talk about your top comparison instead.
